We are supporting Ovarian Cancer

OCAsmall

A friend of mine has the same impairment as me - and she also has ovarian cancer. To raise awareness we are supporting Ovarian cancer action in the UK by recycling our ink cartridges.

It is the highest gynaecological killer of women in the UK and the fourth most common cause of death from cancer in women. Around two thirds of those diagnosed will die from the disease.

    Are you user led?

'User-led' is a term used to refer to people planning, designing and implementing services for others in similar circumstances.

For example a company providing holiday services/guidance for visually impaired teenagers would be user-led if teenagers with visual impairments were fully involved in saying what types of services they would like and in which way.

Our services are delivered by disabled people.

On this principle, we are user-led.

    Being disabled isn’t a qualification

A group of wheelchair users who had no experience of being visually impaired would not 'count' as a user led service in the above situation. E.g. just because a person is 'labelled' disabled, does not make them the most appropriate person to design or implement services.

There are many individuals and groups of disabled people who will offer their services BECAUSE they have an impairment or express themselves as being ‘user led’.

    Disabled professionals.

Our services are provided by disabled people who have academic and professional qualifications as well as personal experience. We have an in-depth understanding of equality and how inequality affects people with a range of impairments.

As such we can offer you a high quality service where impairment is not our only qualification.
