Understanding Disability and Impairment

People learning

We offer a range of courses that will provide practical information and advice on the theme of 'Disability Equality' through

  • Interactive workshops
  • Dynamic presentations
  • Challenging debate and discussions.

Our aim is simple. To create an environment where people feel at ease to examine a range of topics and leave with the confidence and knowledge that they can make a positive change.

We run courses that blend in the Disability Discrimination Act (2005) DDA legislation with the topics that people tell us they would find useful and informative. We also run 'awareness courses'. These focus more on techniques such as communication, meet and greet assistance etc (and would not be sufficient for staff training to cover the DDA).

Courses include:

  • DDA (In summary as part of an awareness course or as an Equality course).
  • Communicating with people who have a range of impairments
  • Information provision (verbal and none-verbal (techniques, access etc.)
  • Examining the provision of disability specific information.
  • The role of a Personal Assistant, assistance animal or interpreter.
  • Attitude and etiquette - Looking at behaviors and language.
  • Front-line staff - meet and greet / interacting / customer information delivery.
  • Working effectively with disabled colleagues - disability in the work place.
  • The medical side of impairment - understanding medical conditions and how they effect people.
